Initiatives in COVID care:

Since the emergence of COVID pandemic, Government Medical College Manjeri had been designated as COVID treatment care centre for the district of Malappuram. First COVID patient started treatment here on 13/03/2020 and since then the number has been exponentially increasing. All COVID patients with symptoms had atleast a chest X- ray taken from our radiology department. Portable radiography was used to reach the sick patients in all 6 ICUs, 21 wards as well as casualty. B – block was designated as COVID area and CT and USG for COVID patients were done here. All radiological investigations were offered free of cost for COVID patients. Strict precautionary measures were followed by all staff of the department to prevent spread of pandemic among the staff as well as between  patients. All radiographers had selflessly served with dedication to support treatment care of COVID patients. Despite severe staff shortage, radiologists including our senior HOD had actively participated in performing ultrasound scans in PPE and in reporting COVID CTs even outside working hours.

As part of RAKSHA project, masks, sanitisers and gloves were distributed in department and to grade II workers. Dr Gomathy Subramaniam, HOD, had delivered a talk regarding how our radiology department functions during COVID times and on the importance of radiological investigations in COVID -19 on Arogyakeralam program at Radio FM.

Till date more than 1000 ultrasounds, 16000 X-rays and around 700 CT scans have been performed in department for COVID 19 positive patients.
