Introduction:
The department of Physiology at Govt. Medical college, Manjeri is currently headed by Dr. Jean Maliekkal. The department constitutes eight faculty members, who are actively involved in teaching and research. The department provides an excellent academic platform for MBBS students.
Academic Activities:
Medical students have regular theory and practical classes, seminars and group discussions in the department. They have periodic short test papers, sessional exams, practical exams and viva as a part of formative assessment. Practical are conducted by dividing the students into four batches, four days a week.
Department also conducts horizontal and vertical integration sessions in collaboration with other departments. Remedial teaching sessions are conducted for academic low achievers.
Medical students have a tutorial system under a mentor. The mentors are faculty members from the three preclinical departments. The students are divided into groups of eight, each group under a mentor. Periodic meetings are conducted for regular follow up of curricular, extracurricular and personal matters.
Facilities:
Department of Physiology has well equipped Hematology, Amphibian, Mammalian and Clinical Physiology laboratories. A research laboratory with equipment's for UG teaching is also available in the department. The department has a library with more than 100 books of Indian and foreign authors which is of great use to the faculty and students. The department also has 2 demonstration halls (1 A/C) with ample seating facility and audiovisual aids.
