Department Of Dermatology
Dermatology is the branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of skin disorders and diseases. It covers a broad range of conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails. Here’s an overview of what dermatologists do:
- Diagnosis and Treatment: Dermatologists diagnose and treat various skin conditions, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, skin infections, and skin cancer. They use techniques such as biopsies, blood tests, and imaging to assess and manage these conditions.
- Skin Cancer Screening: They play a crucial role in detecting and treating skin cancer, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. Regular skin checks and mole evaluations are common practices.
- Cosmetic Procedures: Dermatologists often perform cosmetic procedures to improve the appearance of the skin. This can include treatments like Botox injections, dermal fillers, laser therapy, chemical peels, and cosmetic surgery.
- Pediatric Dermatology: This sub-specialty focuses on skin conditions in children, which can differ significantly from those in adults. Conditions such as infantile hemangiomas and congenital skin disorders are common areas of focus.
- Research and Education: Dermatologists contribute to research on skin diseases and new treatments and often engage in educating patients and the public about skin health and prevention.
Overall, dermatology blends clinical care with cosmetic and preventive practices to help maintain and improve skin health.
